Python is not compiled with SSL

I'm trying to install python 3.4. However, the installed interpreter seems to be compiled without openssl. This means that I can't use pip on it. Is there something I am doing wrong?

Way to reproduce:

brew uninstall python34

brew install --force openssl
brew install python34
which python3.4
python3.4 --version
python3.4 -c "import ssl"

The output:

is a symlink belonging to python. You can unlink it:
  brew unlink python

To force the link and overwrite all conflicting files:
  brew link --overwrite python34

To list all files that would be deleted:
  brew link --overwrite --dry-run python34

Possibly related, but it also appears not to have support for zlib.

I had success with LANG=C brew install --env=std python3{1,2,3,4}.
